Fundraising Tips

We’ve put these tips together to help you make your fundraising as successful and fun as possible:

Use the www.justgiving.com/ciniuk website is a fast and easy way to raise funds - Simply create a personalised page in five minutes, detailing your sponsored event, and then email the link to your page to all your friends and contacts – this way they can also follow you on your adventure!

Facebook is a great way to promote your sponsored event – either through posting a note, or by sharing a personalised statement on your profile all your friends will know what you are doing.

Ensure that close friends and family sponsor you first – as they tend to be the most generous - and will set the standard for everyone else who sees your sponsorship form/webpage.

A lot of companies now run matched giving schemes, matching the total amount of funding raised, or at least making a standard donation to every staff member doing a sponsored event in aid of charity. You may not know about it, so it is worth asking if they are able to help!

Ask family and friends to collect sponsorship on your behalf. Give them details of your online sponsorship page, and a copy of the paper sponsorship form, and these fundraising tips.

It’s a good idea to take your paper sponsorship forms wherever you go - you never know who might be willing to sponsor you!

When using the paper forms, ask if people would mind giving you the money straight away – as this saves a lot of time after the event.

Send an article and photo to your company newsletter, or the newsletters of any groups or organisations you are currently, or have previously been involved with. Make sure you’ve included details of how to sponsor you!

Talk to local newspapers to see if they would be willing to write a news story about you. Through this you can advertise your fundraising efforts and thank any corporate sponsors. If they take a picture you could wear a t-shirt bearing the Company Logos of those who are sponsoring you.

Promises to wear silly costumes while doing your sponsored event if you raise over a certain amount may help you get malicious friends giving!
