Help train a traditional birth attendant

Women in India are nearly 80 times more likely to die in childbirth than women in the UK

As part of our work to prevent maternal deaths, CINI trains up traditional birth attendants, who still deliver the majority of babies in most parts of rural India.

These traditional birth attendants are taught how to recognise common complications. They also learn about measures they can take to minimise the risks involved in childbirth, and how to refer women at the earliest possible stage for medical support if they begin to demonstrate any of a list of danger signs.

Just £7.50 is enough to pay to train one traditional birth attendant, her knowledge will help make childbirth safer for dozens of women in her local area. Donate £7.50 or more to our work to help mothers and children in India in the run up to Mother's Day and we will send a special gift card explaining how this support will make a difference, and a friendship bracelet made by women in our project area to give to your mother on Mother's Day.

It is possible to buy this alternative gift online by clicking here.
Please also send an email to info@cini.org.uk giving:
  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • The address you would like the card sent to (if you would like it sent direct to your mother please give her name and any special message you would like written inside).

Alternatively make your order by calling 020 7582 1400. If you get the answer phone, please leave your name and number and we will get back to you.

Seven pounds fifty is the minimum donation to help train a traditional birth attendant. However, if you want to give more, this would, of course, be extremely welcome. Fifteen pounds would be the equivalent of buying a bunch of flowers. Thirty pounds would be as much as you might have spent on a card, chocolates and flowers.
